ENTRY FEE: $18.00 unless otherwise stated. Exhibitor must purchase an exhibitor ticket at time of entry. Without exhibitor pass, exhibitors will not be allowed in the barns after hours.

Classes will be run as close as possible to the prize book, but the management reserves the right to change any order or time schedule or modify any classes they deem necessary. Classes with insufficient entries may be combined or cancelled.

RULES:

• Entries must complete entry form, Gate Pass forms and Camping forms (if staying overnight).

• Name of each horse must be recorded on entry forms.

• When filling out class number, please use number and letter as indicated in the prize book (i.e. 14s).

• There will be a $25.00 charge for all NSF cheques.

• No late entries unless approved by the light horse director. A fee of $20 will be added.

• Post Entries may be allowed by the light horse director for double the entry fee. Post entries for morning classes must be made the day before. Afternoon classes will be made the morning by 11 am & evening classes will be made by 3 pm.

EXHIBITOR INFORMATION:

Arrival times: Exhibitors not arriving on time may be refused entry. Earlier arrival can be arranged. 

Horses may arrive on the grounds Thursday 10 am to 8pm and must be on the grounds no later than Friday at 7am & required to stay until 5pm Sunday. All horses remain stabled on the grounds for the duration of the show entered. Failure to comply will result in forfeiture of all prize money.

STABLING REGULATIONS:

• Fee: $75.00 for the weekend for box stalls, non-refundable. YOU MUST ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 7 AM FRIDAY and LEAVE SUNDAY AFTER 5:00 PM. If other arrangements need to be made, please contact the chairperson.

• Due to limited space entries will be limited to the number of stalls available. Please indicate on entry form request to be stabled with others.  Management will make reasonable efforts to accommodate special requests but reserve the right to stabling allotments.  

• Absolutely no stall tags to be removed by exhibitors, any Exhibitor changing stall tags or using stalls for tack room without permission may be removed from the show, forfeiting all entry fees and prize money. 

• All stalls and alley ways to be cleaned before 8am each day.  Please keep alley way clean and tidy and no tacking horses up in the alley ways.

• Best Decorated stall: Exhibitors are encouraged to decorate their stalls/area not only to win prizes but for overall appearance for the general public.

GENERAL RULES:

AGES:

PeeWee Competitor: 9 and under as of January 1st of the competition year

Junior Competitor: 13 years & under as of January 1st of the competition year

Intermediate Competitor: 10-18 years as of January 1st of the competition year

Youth Competitor: 14-17 years as of January 1st of the competition year

Senior Competitor: 18 years & over as of January 1st of the competition year

• Classes will run as close to the prize list as possible, but the Chilliwack Fair reserves the right to change any order or time schedule or modify any classes they deem necessary. 

• Classes may be combined, cancelled or split by the Chilliwack Fair reflective of the number of entries. If a large class is split, the judge will choose the top five from each half to return for final judging.

• Barn Calls are a courtesy only. Each competitor is responsible to report to the Whipper promptly. Failure to do so may lead to disqualification from the class. All effort will be made to accommodate exhibitors if there is a conflict of time for an exhibitor to enter a class. 

• NO person under the age of 18 years of age may exhibit a stallion.

• Numbers must be displayed while handling or riding anywhere on the ground. 

• All horses ridden must be fully tacked with saddle and bridle.

• Lunging permitted before 7 am in the designated ring only. 

• No trotting or cantering outside designated warm-up rings.

• The management reserves the right to disqualify an entry if a gate hold exceeds the time restrictions of the show.

• Gate holds must be requested at least 10 minutes before the start of the class and approved by the Light horse director.

• NO horses are allowed at or directly around the light horse show office. 

• NO HORSES are allowed to be tied to any fence on the Chilliwack Fair Grounds. 

• If class number warrant, classes may be split.

CHILLIWACK FAIR COWBOY CHALLENGE

This is an Extreme Cowboy Competition based on 12 obstacles in race format. It will be judged based on speed, horsemanship, and precision. Each obstacle is scored out of 10. There will be horsemanship score out of ten and bonus time points will also be awarded based on the rules of the ‘Extreme Cowboy Racing Associations’. Scheduled practice times & instruction will be made available (Trevor Mertes on Friday Evening).

CHILLIWACK FAIR OPEN ARENA 3 MAN SORTING

A run starts with team members on one side of the start/foul line opposite from the cattle. The judge will raise the flag when the cattle are ready. The judge signals the start of the time when the nose of the horse crosses the start/foul line by dropping the flag. The announcer will draw a number to determine the first cow to be sorted in numerical order through the gate until all numbered cattle are across the line.

• Max 20 riders per jackpot (6 separate Jackpots) 

• 6 goes/ $200 per jackpot (all draw) 

• All teams will be run with a handicap based on your current CTCPA rating. 

• Top 10 paying to 4 spots.

$500 CHILLLIWACK FAIR VERSALITILY RANCH RIDING HORSE CHALLENGE

The Ranch Riding Horse Challenge is based on four of the five the Ranch classes. To participate in this challenge, one must enter the following Ranch classes: 

• Ranch Riding Pattern

• Ranch riding Trail

• Ranch riding Rail 

• Ranch Confirmation

WALK/TROT DIVISION

• Will only be held as 2 age groups: Senior and Youth/Junior 

• Only one Horse/Rider combination is allowed per class

• If a Horse/Rider combination is entered in a walk/trot division, they cannot cross enter into ANY walk/trot/canter or loop classes in the show.

Section A: GYMKHANA

Gymkhana hosted by the Chilliwack Riding Club

Friday 10:00am Rodeo Ring

Ribbons will be handed out to 6th place.

Rider draws will be handed out to all riders during the gymkhana. There will also be a highpoint for each division of the gymkhana.

POLE BENDING

The course may run starting to the left or right of the pattern. Follow the line of travel indicated on the pattern.  Failure to follow the correct course shall cause a contestant to be disqualified. A 5 second penalty for each pole knocked over.

STAKE RACE 

The correct pattern shall be ran across the center timing line, turning left or right around the stake at the end, return through the center, turn in the opposite way around the stake, then sprint back through the center, shutting off the time. Failure to follow course or knocking down stake or course marker shall cause a contestant to be eliminated.

HANDY PONY

The rider crosses the starting line and circles around both barrels into a limed or chalked square. The rider stops his horse in the square and must stand there for five seconds. There will be a timer in the arena with a stopwatch who will yell “GO” when the five seconds has passed. The rider then races to the finish line.

A rider may run left or right of the pole. Horse must go around the pole.

SPEED BARRELS 

Knocking over a barrel carries a 5 second penalty.  Failure to follow the course shall cause disqualifications.  A contestant may touch the barrel with his/her hands in the race.

The ideal showmanship performance consists of a poised, confident, neatly attired exhibitor leading a well-groomed and conditioned horse that quickly and efficiently performs the requested patterns with promptness, smoothness and precision.  The exhibitor will show the horse in the posted pattern.

HAND/TRAIL/HORSE:

The Handy Trail horse class is the performance of a safe, sensible, well-mannered horse over a course of obstacles It is open to all horses of all breeds. “Order of go” to be posted. This class is an in-hand test of horse control & the handler’s ability to guide the horse safely through a series of obstacles. May be shown in English or Western attire. Horse will be shown over & through a series of 6 -10 obstacles. Emphasis is placed on safety, the horses’ manners & response to the handler & quality of the movement. Handler may be asked to move on after 3 disobediences at the same obstacle.

WESTERN RIDING 

Based on the performance of a sensible, well-mannered, free and easy moving horse. The horse should perform at a reasonable speed and are judged on the riding qualities of the required gaits, change of leads, and response to the exhibitor, manner, disposition and intelligence.

ON COMMAND CLASS

The command class is neither a race, nor is it a gymkhana event.  It is a competition which exhibits a well-trained, responsive performance horse/pony.  Riders must be dressed in suitable western attire.  Entries are eliminated one at a time at the discretion of the judge as commands are not executed correctly. At no time are ring stewards allowed to partake in the judging or placing of the class. 1st place only awarded.

Credit will be given to horses showing the capability of picking their way through the course when obstacle warrant it & exhibiting trust in the rider when negotiating more difficult obstacles. Breast collars & back cinch are recommended. Attire and tack should be cleaned & presentable, silver is discouraged. No tail extensions, hoof polish or banded/braided manes allowed.

RANCH RIDING HORSE – PATTERN

The horse should reflect the versatility, attitude & movement of a working horse, the horse’s performance should simulate a horse riding outside the confines of an arena & that of a working ranch horse. This class should show the horse’s ability to work at a forward working speed while under control by the rider. Light contact should be rewarded & horse shall not be shown on a full drape reins. The overall manners & responsiveness of the horse while performing the maneuver requirements & the horse’s quality of movement are the primary considerations.

RANCH ON THE RAIL

This is a walk/jog/lope class and extensions can be requested in the walk and jog, the quality and cadence of the gaits is the major considerations and should mimic the ranch horse that looks like it has a job to do.  Natural movement with the ability to extend, come back, stop turn around and stop when asked.

DISCIPLINE RAIL ENGLISH

Disciplined Rail is an advanced pleasure class which tests the skills of both horse and rider, as they execute specific gaits, transitions and movements as requested by the judge. In this class, competitors are asked to do things other than just go around the rail- you may be asked to side pass, hand gallop, pivot, back up, roll back, lead change, extend trot, counter canter (lope) etc.- The class is judged on performance and manners.
